For anyone who has not previously shared life with a Scottish Terrier, here is some information about this wonderful breed. Scotties are independent and strong willed, and intelligent and independent thinkers. Despite their independence, they are sensitive and loyal to their owners. Scotties can be challenging to train, not because they are not quick and intelligent, but because they may have a different ‘opinion’, although positive training techniques with the use of clickers are highly effective and enjoyable for both the dog and the owners. Avoid extended periods of training – you will find your Scottie does better with short, positive and fun, lessons.

HeatherBee Kennels is proud to announce that West Highland White Terriers – also known as ‘Westies’ – have been added to our family. Westies are another breed originating in Scotland (alongside the Scottish Terriers and Golden Retrievers we have the pleasure of sharing life with). Thanks in large part to the generosity of Dolores Richardson and Dolden Westies, my dream to add this wonderful breed comes true as I introduce Lilly, Finnley and little baby Pearl. The Westies are from European, Canadian and American Champion blood lines! Lilly's next litter is planned for this Fall.

According to the Golden Retriever Club of Canada, the breed was originally developed in Scotland in the mid-19th century as a bird hunting dog able to retrieve land and water fowl. Goldens eventually made an appearance in Canada in the 1920’s, where their beautiful appearance, exceptional temperament and their sturdy, muscular stature made them excellent working dogs.

While many Heideland® miniature and toy poodles do well in agility or sport performance, and our playful poodles have character and intelligence with an off switch. They are healthy, balanced and resilient family companions. We continue to have a keen interest in potential therapy and service dogs. Poodles, because of their intelligence and sensitivity, can be exceptional therapy dogs, trauma dogs, autism dogs, psychiatric dogs and more. Our puppies are sold with a one-month trial plan with Trupanion Pet Insurance Coverage, effective the day of pickup. There are no limits to the amount of a claim for illness or accident and no waiting period – coverage is effective immediately after the puppies are registered by the BUYER directly with Trupanion. A Breeder code and all necessary information for registration will be provided by us as an approved Trupanions Breeder. Our puppies are raised with according to the principles of Puppy Culture, and are well socialized as they come to you.

HeatherBee constantly evaulates our feeding program to provide puppies and our mature dogs with optimal nutrition. Overall, we can recommend Nutrience SubZero Prairie Red Dog Food, however we often opt to feed our puppies Purina Puppy Lamb and Rice Formulas. Either Purina Pro Plan or Purina One Lamb and Rice are preferred. We do not select foods where the primary protein is chicken.
